
Biography
Kayla Puente is a Ph.D. student in the School of Education, specializing in Learning, Teaching, Cognition and Development (LTCD). She received her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Pomona College in 2016.
Kayla is interested in studying how cultural factors, such as familism, influence Latinx adolescents in their social, emotional, and academic development. She is also interested in studying how academic motivation and achievement are influenced by the relationships students have with their parents, peers, and teachers. She has explored topics such as the influence of generational status on intrinsic motivation and the effects of biculturalism on science engagement and motivation.
Kayla is currently part of the Family Support of Math and Science and Templeton Character Development projects, studying family and developmental processes and its relation to academic motivation.
