Mapping the Arts

Mapping the Arts is a professional development program for pre-service teaching artists. Program participants were trained to implement a curriculum that teaches elementary school students about ties between the geographical and cultural environments of different U.S. regions and the dance, drama, and visual art forms these environments foster. This project expanded the Mapping the Beat geography through music curriculum to include additional art forms.

Project outcomes are being evaluated using multiple data sources, including standardized test scores, student focus groups, student surveys, videotapes of class sessions, teacher reports of student engagement and cognitive skill development, and researcher field notes.
