Biography
Nasim Googol is a PhD candidate at School of Education, University of Wollongong in Australia. She is completing a dissertation titled, “Blended learning environments: Nature of knowledge construction from linguistic and sociological perspectives”. Before her PhD research, she received two master degrees: one in Applied Linguistics specialized in TESOL from Macquarie University, Australia and another one in TEFL from Iran. Nasim has a strong background in linguistics and extensive ESL/EFL teaching experience at the college-level, focusing on improving learners’ academic literacy. Her research interest includes discourse analysis, academic literacy development, ESL teaching, and analyzing the affordances of technology-driven educational settings.
As a Visiting Scholar at UCI School of Education, Nasim works with Dr. Mark Warschauer’s research group in the Digital Learning Lab (DLL). Collaborating in part of “Digital Scaffolding for English Language Arts” project, she investigates the language and literacy development of middle school English learners from different language proficiencies and backgrounds.
