May 7, 2025
Associate Professor Hosun Kang has been named a 2025 NARST Fellow by the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. This honor recognizes her outstanding contributions to science education research and her commitment to advancing equity and social justice in STEM teaching and learning.
Kang’s work focuses on transforming science education to support a more just, sustainable, and thriving future. Her research explores how preservice and in-service teachers learn to center equity and justice in their science instruction, and how students, especially those from non-dominant linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, develop identities as capable science learners. Currently, with support from the National Science Foundation, Dr. Kang is partnering with the Anaheim and Irvine School districts to co-design and implement transdisciplinary, justice-centered curriculum and assessments for environmental sustainability. This prestigious fellowship affirms her national leadership in the field of science education and her ongoing efforts to reimagine how STEM learning can better serve all students.
