A message from Dean Richard Arum

Welcome to the University of California, Irvine School of Education, where we pride ourselves on advancing educational sciences, improving learning opportunities and outcomes for our students and community, and supporting people from all backgrounds in achieving the American dream.
Our school was built with the vision of studying education through a variety of disciplines. Our curriculum draws on perspectives from neuroscience, economics, sociology, psychology, anthropology and more. Our diverse and internationally recognized faculty are thought leaders in these fields, and they conduct research that, collectively, examines the entire lifespan. As of June 2019, our faculty were principal investigators on grants whose combined total was more than $90 million.

Our work extends beyond our campus, which is located in the heart of Orange County, the nation’s sixth most populous county. Surrounding us is a diverse K-12 student population and dozens of school districts whose goals and demands are rapidly evolving. We have made it our mission to facilitate conversations and establish partnerships with our local schools. Together, we are creating tangible improvements and transforming Orange County education.
Through our scholarship, programs and initiatives - including the Center for Educational Partnerships (CFEP), the UCI Teacher Academy, and the Orange County Educational Advancement Network (OCEAN) - the School of Education works to improve the educational experiences for our diverse community, not just our students. We study the myriad factors that impact learning and development from infancy to adulthood; partner with K-12 schools to improve best practices; support the entire UCI student body - and those seeking to transfer from community college - with resources, programming and mentorship; and lead professional development workshops for teachers and administrators. Through this multi-faceted effort, we are reimagining how a school of education can - and should - serve its students, campus and community.
I am honored to lead such a diverse, vibrant and influential school. I encourage you to peruse our website to learn more about our innovative programs, cutting-edge research, and accomplished students, staff and faculty.
