Biography
Phebe Chew is interested in how emotion impacts learning in both long and short term ways, especially across digital mediums. How do we develop proclivities to certain subjects or identify with certain domains over others, specifically STEM domains? How does the rhetoric and design of learning environments and tools further contribute to this process? Finally, how can we develop more interdisciplinary learning environments which dismantle the inequitable patterns of our education systems?
Originally from Arcadia, California, Phebe received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Soka University of America. While completing her Master of Education in Educational Counseling at the University of Southern California, she worked as the Literacy Director of the USC Joint Educational Project ReadersPLUS program and was able to bridge her lifelong curiosity towards subject-based identity formation with her passion for education, equity, and design.
Phebe plans on completing her PhD at UCI working with her advisor, Dr. June Ahn to improve digital learning experiences in Orange County and beyond.
