On Saturday, June 10, 2023, a new branch of Bilingualism Matters will open at UC Irvine. Professor Antonella Sorace from the University of Edinburgh and Dr. Katarzyna Przybycien will lead a workshop. This will be a virtual event and all are welcome to attend.
Bilingualism Matters was founded in 2008 by Professor Sorace to bridge the emerging research on bilingualism with the experience of bilingualism in the community. The network includes now over 30 branches globally. The UCI branch of Bilingualism Matters will engage researchers, educators, and community members across all of California to develop a network that connects research on bilingualism with community practice. The goal is to bring research on bilingualism to the community and, at the same time, to partner with the community to bring life and language experience to the research. We hope to include expertise from around the US and from our international colleagues to create strong partnerships in California that are informed and connected to others. You can find a brief clip about Bilingualism Matters here.
The reason for the Saturday date is that we want to accommodate our community partners, student teachers, and all others who would otherwise not be able to join on a weekday. Everyone will need to register for the event (see below) and can feel free to attend for whatever portion they are able. A recording will be made for those who are interested but unable to attend. Please email Jennifer Fogarty ([email protected]) if you would like to receive a link to the recording once it’s available.
We are very excited to work together with you and hope to see many of you on June 10!
