UCI School of Education Climate Council
The UCI School of Education Climate Council advises the School of Education community on issues related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and justice. Together, we are committed to promoting dignity and respect for all members of our community. We strive to foster and support a thriving, dynamic climate through collaborative learning, education and leadership. Our aim is to promote excellence through open inquiry, education, inclusion, honesty, knowledge, diversity, dialogue and respect. Our goal is to create a positive and inclusive community culture in the School of Education where all feel supported, empowered and valued.
We celebrate the diverse tapestry of people and experiences. We seek to empower and value each member of our community. We acknowledge that certain communities and voices are traditionally marginalized and work to dismantle power differentials that silence, limit, alienate, and harm. We also acknowledge that marginalization often manifests itself through personal interactions, but is rooted in systems of oppression, such as white privilege, racism, and sexism. Because of this, we work to promote inclusive excellence at multiple levels including communication and interaction, pedagogy and curriculum, and hiring and retention practices.
