2021 Critical Race Conference
In January 2021, the UCI School of Education will host its first critical race conference in partner with The People's Coalition. Critical Race Theory is a theoretical framework that examines history, institutions, power structures, economics, and laws while considering the impacts of systemic racism. Critical race research is scientific and rigorous in nature, often adopting qualitative research methods to explore lived experiences of people of color or members of other marginalized and minoritized groups. Notable critical theorists include Kimberlé Crenshaw, Gloria Ladson-Billings, and Derrick Bell, among many others, and inspiration is often drawn from authors such as W. E. B. Du Bois and artists such as Nina Simone.
We encourage all undergraduate, graduate students, writers/scholars, and postdoctoral scholars conducting research related to Critical Race Theory, disability studies, feminist studies, queer studies and anti-oppression/anti-colonialism (and the intersectionality of these) to submit an abstract for consideration.
To vote for one of the nominated keynote speakers, please complete this form by October 1, 2020. The Call for Proposals and a Google link to submit conference submissions will be available soon. Conference schedule to come soon. Questions about the conference should be directed to [email protected].
