UCI School of Education's Young-Suk Kim selected as 2024 AERA Fellow for outstanding contributions to education research
Irvine, Calif. February 15, 2024 -- Young-Suk Kim, UC Irvine School of Education professor and senior associate dean, has been named a 2024 Fellow by the American Educational Research Association (AERA), which serves as the largest national interdisciplinary research association devoted to the scientific study of education and learning. Kim is being recognized with this prestigious honor for her exceptional contributions to, and excellence in, education research.
“The 2024 AERA Fellows join an exceptional group of scholars, and we are thrilled to welcome them,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “Their meaningful contributions to the education research field demonstrate the highest standards of academic excellence. They are most deserving of this honor.” Throughout her career, Kim has advanced the understanding of language and literacy development and identifying effective instruction to support students from various linguistic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Her research findings have informed evidence-based practices and interventions, driving positive outcomes in literacy development and academic achievement. |
Her research has been supported by more than $60 million in research grants from prominent institutions such as the Institute of Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Science Foundation.
In 2022, Kim was named the No. 2 top productive researcher globally in the field of literacy in the Educational Psychology Review. She was recently appointed chair of the Reading Difficulties Risk Screener Selection Panel (RDRSSP), which will select a screening assessment used across the state of California starting in the 2025-26 academic year for all students in kindergarten through second grade.
Kim will join the 2024 AERA cohort of 24 exemplary scholars in an induction ceremony that will take place during organization's Annual Meeting in Philadelphia on April 12, 2024.
