Biography
Dr. Vanitha Chandrasekhar has been with the Long Beach Unified School District for over 29 years. She has experience teaching elementary and middle school as a classroom teacher, resource specialist, and a technology teacher. She is currently the Educational Technology Coordinator in the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development for the Long Beach USD. She supports district-wide implementation of instructional technology, and her responsibilities include working closely with the curriculum leaders and Information Technology Services to support the school sites and their technology integration needs. This involves evaluating, recommending digital tools and devices and providing professional development to teachers and administrators.
Vanitha received her B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and her Master’s in Educational Administration from CSU Dominguez Hills. Vanitha received her Ed.D. from the University of California and Cal Poly Pomona Joint Program on Educational Leadership with a focus on one-to-one laptop programs.
In 2003, Vanitha was part of the Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholarship which provided her with the opportunity to visit Japan for three weeks and visit educational institutions and study their teaching practices.
One of Vanitha’s passion is about helping students build 21st century skills of creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration, and citizenship using digital tools to be productive global citizens. To achieve this goal, she supports future and current teachers integrating technology into their content and pedagogy to empower their students.
