Awarded $3,500,000 from IES to Study Digital Scaffolding

Professors Mark Warschauer (PI - r), Penelope Collins (c), and George Farkas (l), in collaboration with Garden Grove USD, will test the effectiveness of visual-syntactic text formatting (VSTF) for improving student achievement in reading, writing, and English Language Arts. Read more. ​

Invited Visiting Professor at the Institute Francáis de l'Education

Following her presentations at UNESCO, Associate Professor Rossella Santagata has been invited as a Visiting Professor to contribute to the UNESCO Chair initiative on the "Preparation of Teachers for the 21st Century."

Awarded $2,900,000 to Study Impact of Embedding Educational Information in Baby Books 

Associate Professor Stephanie Reich (PI), Greg Duncan, and Natasha Cabrera have received a $2,900,000 NICHD grant to study the effectiveness of embedding educational information in baby books as a way of educating mothers and fathers about child development. Read more. ​

Alumna Named to State Board of Education

Alumna Dr. Feliza Ortiz-Licon, Senior Director of K-16 Education for the National Council of La Raza, has been named by Governor Jerry Brown to the California State Board of Education. Read more.

Associate Professor Gilberto Conchas, Michael Gottfried, and Ph.D. Alumna Briana Hinga are editors of the new Routledge publication: Inequality, Power and School Success: Case Studies on Racial Disparity and Opportunity in Education. Read more. 

Doctoral Students Garner Three NSF Fellowships, Two Honorable Mentions

Gabriel Estrella, Maria (Masha) Jones, and Tarana Khan each were awarded the highly selective NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, one of the most prestigious awards available to graduate students in the United States. Lauren Godfrey and Doron Zinger received Honorable Mention. Read more.

MAT Scholarship Recipients Honored at Spring Awards Celebration

The 2014-2015 School of Education Teacher Education Honors Scholarships Celebration on April 23 recognized recipients of the Dean's Scholarship, Mary Roosevelt Honor Scholarship, Master of Arts in Teaching Scholarship, and the Owen Thomas Scholarship. Read more.
