Biography
Gala is a PhD student specializing in Educational Policy & Social Context (EPSC). She received her master’s degree in Public Policy at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy, where she specialized in Program Design and Evaluation.
Her interest in higher education policy was strongly motivated by her experiences as a student in San Diego’s South Bay, where she witnessed the many barriers faced by students of color, first-generation students, and low-income students in the college pipeline.
Her previous research focuses on Hispanic-Serving Institutions, tuition subsidies for marginalized student groups, and the impact of policies on student trajectories. Gala aims to continue using econometric methods to answer policy-relevant questions. She hopes her research will inform policies that promote access and equity for historically-underserved students.
