Biography
Jose Mendez is a first year Ph.D. student in the School of Education specializing in Learning, Teaching, and Educational Improvement (LTEI). He received his B.A. in psychology with a minor in education studies from UCLA after transferring from El Camino College. As an undergraduate, Jose explored the correlations between community college student’s unit load, awareness of campus resources, and GPA. He also used neural imaging techniques to study attention in the classroom.
Jose is currently conducting research with Dr. van Es to develop tools to better support mathematics teacher’s equitable practices. He is interested in how student-teacher relationships impact educational trajectories for youth of color and hopes to pursue a career as a professor.
