Biography
Jonathan Lee Montoya is a fourth year doctoral candidate working with Dr. Mark Warschauer. Jonathan is curious about how students with compounding marginalizations navigate STEM and CTE pathways, and how these pathways foster equitable routes to both college and career. Jonathan also explores traditionally gendered STEM workforce pathways from secondary to post-secondary education.
Jonathan is a practitioner at heart. He holds secondary teaching credentials in Biological Sciences, Geosciences, and Career Technical Education. He has also taught AVID, MESA, English, Algebra, and post-secondary CTE courses. Jonathan received his M.A. in STEEM education from Santa Clara University, where he was a National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholar working with Dr. Sara Soledad Garcia. He received his B.S. in Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Ethics at Cal Poly Humboldt.
As an undergraduate, he traveled abroad to study Botany and Environmental Education in Argentina and Chile. In 2018 Jonathan became the first high school teacher to complete the Virtual Design and Construction Certificate program at The Center for Integrated Facility Engineering at Stanford University. In 2019 he completed his A.A. in Spanish at Mission Community College. In 2020 he was awarded an ECMC foundation fellowship to study Postsecondary Career and Technical Education. In 2021 he was awarded the CSU Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program fellowship and the California Teacher Education Research and Improvement Network fellowship. In addition, Jonathan is currently a National Science Foundation Ridge to Reef fellow in Environmental Change.
