Biography
Originally from Uruguay, Maria received her B.S. in Economics from Universidad de la Republica, and a Master in Public Policy from the University of California, Irvine.
Prior to coming to UCI, Maria worked as a research assistant in the Department of Economics at Universidad de la Republica, as a consultant for the United Nations Development Programme, and as a policy analyst at the Ministry of Social Development in Uruguay. These experiences motivated her to pursue a Ph.D. in Education with a focus on Education Policy and Social Context. She is interested in studying the effectiveness of policies to reduce poverty and inequality, particularly early childhood interventions, and understanding how those affect families' behaviors.
