
Biography
Marixza Torres is a Latina Ph.D. student specializing in Human Development in Context (HDiC). She is interested in studying adolescent development, cultural influences, academic achievement, and family dynamics.
Prior to UCI, Marixza received her B.A in Applied Psychology from Eastern Washington University. She recently was accorded an Honorable Mention from the 2020 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Foundation Program (NSF GRFP).
In her 2018 summer research internship with the EWU McNair Scholars Program, Marixza studied the cultural obstacles faced by Latinx families of children with autism. Last summer, she completed summer research internship at the University of Notre Dame with mentor Dr. Dawn M. Gondoli, examining the relationship between adolescent adjustment, dimensions of parenting, and work orientation.
