Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects’ Annual Forum Symposium: Collaborating for Change
Event hosted by University of California and California State University systemwide initiative invites leaders, educators and community organizations to collaborate on climate solution efforts.
Irvine, Calif., April 3, 2024 – The Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects (ECCLPs), relaunched by the University of California, Irvine School of Education, is hosting its Annual Forum Symposium to connect stakeholders with innovative approaches and best practices to advance environmental and climate change justice, literacy and action. Themed "Collaborating for Change: Bridging the Gap in Climate and Environmental Literacy, Justice, and Action Across PK-12, Higher Education, and Community Partners," this event will be held virtually on May 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT.

“Coalition building is essential as we center on PK-12 education as the catalyst for climate solutions. This incredible event unites partners locally and globally around an education climate action day filled with hope and innovative responses. I’m so very thankful to the participating leaders who are giving their time and expertise to elevate the potential role of PK-12 students and teachers everywhere,” said Kelley Lê, executive director of ECCLPs.The Annual Forum Symposium is designed to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among PK-16 educators and students, statewide leaders, researchers and community partners. Through immersive experiences, knowledge sharing and networking opportunities, participants will gain insights and practical tools, build relationships for future collaborations and explore ways to address environmental literacy and climate challenges within educational settings and communities.

“The California State University Office of the Chancellor and the 23 campuses take immense pride in spearheading crucial efforts to prioritize environmental literacy education locally and statewide. Our various sustainability initiatives and research endeavors prove our commitment to bring this essential work to the forefront. Within California, ECCLPs and the CSU stand ahead – from the selection of a campus hub in the greater Los Angeles area, to serving as a pivotal platform for partnerships and scholarship, to empowering our students, teachers, educators and youth in understanding climate change, and finally to working with local communities and organizations. We're here for the long run,” said Fred Uy, director of Educator and Leadership Programs and co-director of Center for the Advancement of Instruction in Quantitative Reasoning for the California State University Office of the Chancellor.
Featured event activities include speakers working with teachers and students directly through live engagement via Zoom to support education as a catalyst for climate action, poster sessions, workshops focusing on equity and justice, networking sessions, student poetry and song competition, and a creative communicators showcase.

The Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects (ECCLPs, pronounced “eclipse”) is a multisystem initiative organized by the University of California and California State University systems in partnership with key community partners to advance prekindergarten through 12th grade (PK–12) climate and environmental literacy, justice, and action.
