Biography
Raúl has a Ph.D. in Chemistry Education Research from the University of Massachusetts Boston. At present, he is a Research Specialist in Dr. Hosun Kang’s research group in the School of Education at the University of California Irvine. Raúl’s current research interests focused on studying teacher learning for social justice, and liberatory forms of science learning that disrupt the canon building and support students from non-dominant groups in transiting space-time configurations at classrooms.
During his Ph.D. program,, Raúl worked on building the conceptual profile of substance to characterize and understand the heterogeneity of ways of speaking and thinking about substance that people in general, and chemistry students in particular, exhibit to make sense about multiple experiences in their lives. He earned both his M.Ed. in Chemistry Teaching and B.A. in Chemistry from the School of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Raúl taught chemistry for two years in several high schools and in the School of Chemistry, UNAM, in Mexico.
