Biography

​Melinda Petre, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral researcher with the Irvine Network on Interventions in Development (INID) in the School of Education at UC Irvine. 

Prior to joining INID in 2015, Dr. Petre spent a year as a National Poverty Fellow, working with the University of Wisconsin Institute for Research on Poverty and the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation under the Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services. 

Dr. Petre’s research focuses on the returns to cognitive and noncognitive skills in various labor market contexts. She has completed field work in Labor Economics and Micro Theory, as well as coursework in Microeconometrics and Computational Economics, and has taught introductory economics courses in macro, micro, and general economics. 

Dr. Petre received her M.S. and her Ph.D. in Economics, both from the University of Texas at Austin. She completed her undergraduate degree in Economics and Mathematics at Swarthmore College.
