Assistant Vice Chancellor of Educational Partnerships Stephanie Reyes-Tuccio was recently honored with two Woman of the Year awards: one by U.S. Congressional Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) and the other by the National Hispanic Business Women’s Association (NHBWA).
Reyes-Tuccio was recognized by Congressman Correa for her contributions and meaningful impact on the people of the 46th Congressional District in Orange County at the sixth annual “Woman of the Year” award ceremony on April 22 at Chapman University. “I was honestly a little overwhelmed to receive two such honors back to back. I’m truly honored to be recognized by Congressman Correa. His leadership in Congress to advance opportunities and the rights of women has never been more critical, and taking the time to recognize the work of women shows this commitment,” said Reyes-Tuccio. |
The National Hispanic Business Women’s Association also recognized Reyes-Tuccio as one of three awardees for “Woman of the Year” for creating equity and inclusion for the diverse community in the Orange County region. Through her leadership within the UCI Center for Educational Partnerships (CFEP), her work continues to positively impact first-generation students and students of color. The NHBWA’s mission is to empower and encourage women and business owners to develop and increase their business through educational seminars and speakers, by offering mutual support, the sharing of information, business referrals, and networking.
“Those in this organization have in common the belief that they are here to contribute in some meaningful way. It’s so appreciated to see the work of CFEP being recognized. Our work changes lives by often being the critical factor in a young person, who faces many challenges, in being able to pursue higher education.”
CFEP’s programs, partnerships, and initiatives target the diverse and unique needs of four separate but interconnected groups: K-12 students, K-12 teachers, community college transfer students, and UCI undergraduates. Every year, CFEP works with over 10,000 students and hundreds of schools and organizations across Orange County and the surrounding region.
Since being named director of CFEP in 2007, Reyes-Tuccio has helped add new programs and partnerships, established three UCI student-support centers, and helped garner over $75 million in external grants and contracts, and oversaw CFEP’s transition into the UCI School of Education in 2018.
“I’ve been doing university community partnership work of some kind for two decades and I still love it just as much as when I began. On any given day, I am just as likely to be out in the community as on the UCI campus and I like it that way,” she said.
