AERA 2018 Annual Meeting: “The Dreams, Possibilities, and Necessity of Public Education”
April 13-17, 2018 New York Title: "Museum-Generated Digital Resource Metadata: Implications for Teacher Educators" Authors: Doron Zinger, Risa Hatanaka, Sara Quach, Mark Warschauer Abstract As information technologies develop, many museums have begun to digitize their physical collections, putting them online. As museum upload resources they include information about the resources, or metadata. However, characteristics of metadata that promote instructional use of resources have not been identified. Thus, in this study we first identified teacher relevant metadata categories in digital museum resources. We then identify the frequency of teacher relevant metadata in a random sample of resources and teacher-used resources. We found a total of 11 teacher-relevant metadata categories and four categories which rarely appeared in museum generated resource, but were frequently seen in teacher-used resources. Implications from this study for teacher educators are discussed. Comments are closed.
