UCI CalTeach Director Doron Zinger and Master Teachers Kris Houston and Terry Shanahan will be discussing their research findings at the February 28 meeting of the Center for Teacher Development & Professional Practice: "Persisting through Challenges: How CalTeach Preparation Supports Early Career Teacher Resilience."
Thursday, February 28, 2019 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm Education 2005 Description: In this presentation we will share findings on the persistence of teachers who completed the University of California, Irvine CalTeach program. The program’s graduates have persisted in teaching at much higher rates than typically found with new teachers, especially when compared to the turnover rate of teachers in schools with large proportion of historically underserved students. We first present overall persistence rates for graduates who enter the classroom and then provide finer grained analysis of the factors that the teachers attributed their persistence to, with a focus on their CalTeach preparation program experiences. Data sources in the study include program information, in-service surveys, as well as interviews with selected teachers. We hope to receive feedback from the group on this study on the questions the research raises and other areas of research we might explore in CalTeach. Comments are closed.
