Two of the six teachers selected as 2020 Orange County Teachers of the Year received their degrees from UCI. Melissa Brennan, 1st grade teacher at Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary School in the Magnolia School District, received her UCI Teaching Credential in 2006. "Ms. Brennan was surprised in her classroom by Orange County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Al Mijares, who presented her with the prestigious award. Ms. Brennan has been teaching in Magnolia School District for the last 16 years, spending the last five years as a Transitional Kindergarten through 1st grade Special Day Class teacher (from https://maxwell.magnoliasd.org/)." De'Anna Moore, 4th grade teacher at Crescent Elementary School in the Orange Unified School District, is the second UCI graduate honored as 2020 Orange County Teacher of the Year. Ms. Moore received her BA in Psychology and Social Behavior from UCI in 1996. She has been teaching at Crescent Elementary for 16 years (https://www.orangeusd.org/about-us/news/release-article/~board/2019/post/crescent-teacher-deanna-moore-named-2020-orange-county-teacher-of-the-year). The Orange County Teacher of the Year recognition qualifies both Ms. Brennan and Ms. Moore to compete for 2020 California Teacher of the Year.
