Event: 2018 School of Education Research Poster Celebration
Date: Friday, September 28, 2018 Time: 3:30-5:00 pm Location: School of Education Courtyard Presenter: Sharin Jacob Poster Title: "Teacher Perceptions of Equity in Computer Science Education" Poster Advisor: Mark Warschauer Abstract Little research has been conducted on teacher perceptions of equity issues in computer science education that extend beyond access (Aspray, 2016), and educational initiatives lack professional development programs that emphasize equitable instructional practices (Goode, 2014). Given this need, it is critical that teachers are provided opportunities for professional development that cultivate shared understandings of equity and provide instructional strategies for fostering equity in the classroom. This qualitative study explores teacher conceptualizations of equity in computer science classrooms, and the types of equitable instructional practices utilized by participants in a computer science supplementary authorization program. Data from this study can be used to inform emerging programs around the nation that seek to promote equity in computer science education. Comments are closed.
