Nicholas Montano Fowler - caring, comical, curious - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing his single subject social science credential.
Fowler received a University of California Office of the President President's Educator Fellowship at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.
President's Educator Fellowships are awarded to students with a demonstrated commitment to working in public schools that primarily serve students from low-income families.
"Initially, I wanted to go into teaching simply because I had a passion for history," said Fowler. "However, after taking Education classes as an undergraduate student at UCI, I recognized that teaching is much more about equity, inclusivity, and community than it is about content. Now, I aim to help develop students into becoming agents of change while also teaching them the importance of understanding our histories. I am so grateful and honored to receive this award. This award will help me pay for tuition as I continue to grow and learn from this prestigious program."
