Master's student receives Promising Master of Arts in Teaching Award

Karina Guadalupe - passionate, optimistic, blessed - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing  her multiple subject bilingual teaching credential.

Guadalupe received a Promising Master of Arts in Teaching award at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.

Promising Master of Arts in Teaching awards, provided through a Hispanic Serving Institution grant from the U.S. Department of Education, support students who demonstrate the potential to become inspirational teachers.

​"All my life I knew I wanted to go into the career path of teaching," Guadalupe said. "I can still remember the first time, in kindergarten, when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I said a teacher." 

"As I grew up, I encountered many teachers who inspired me to pursue this career path, as I saw the lives they were changing right before my eyes. I was once a student who couldn’t form a single sentence, but with the power of teachers, here I am, ready to begin the next chapter of my life on the road to becoming a teacher. Once I become a teacher, I hope to teach in the city of Santa Ana, where I was born and raised, because they gave me the opportunity to be here today, and I hope to do the same for students in the future." ​
