Master's student receives Promising Master of Arts in Teaching Award

12/9/2019

David Jamero - Visionary, Innovative, Autodidactic - is a Master of Arts in Teaching candidate pursuing his single subject teaching credential in biology.

David received a Promising Master of Arts in Teaching award at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.

Promising Master of Arts in Teaching awards, provided through a Hispanic Serving Institution grant from the U.S. Department of Education, support students who demonstrate the potential to become inspirational teachers.

"To be a teacher is to be an evolving, perpetual learner," David said. "My passion for teaching stems from the captivating, prolific teachers that I had in high school and college. Their support and inspiration had ultimately transformed the person that I became today – an aspiring biology teacher. I have garnered the craft and style of teaching from my teachers and professors, and have emulated, as well as applied into practice, their pedagogy into my site."

"Science is indubitably perceived to be the most rigorous subject in school, and is often misconstrued to be only for the selected few. To allay students’ preconception of science and to make the subject accessible for all, I intend to cultivate an inclusive, community-like classroom. Everyone has the potential to do science. Lastly, I am thankful for this award. I may use it to make my own library in my future classroom since I love books, and that my students would find inspiration and curiosity in reading."
