Master's student awarded Promising Master of Arts in Teaching Award

12/13/2019

Brenda Ramos - optimistic, kind, dedicated - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing  her multiple subject bilingual teaching credential.

Ramos received a Promising Master of Arts in Teaching award at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.

Promising Master of Arts in Teaching awards, provided through a Hispanic Serving Institution grant from the U.S. Department of Education, support students who demonstrate the potential to become inspirational teachers.

"I’m going into teaching because I’ve had past experiences where I felt like I truly made an impact as a child’s coach and teacher," Ramos said

"I’m able to see the potential and greatness in every child, and I’m willing to fight for them and show them many different possibilities and opportunities they can go for! Every child needs a positive mentor, and I hope to aspire to be that and make every one of my students feel like they belong and are welcomed. I’ve been placed in a Bilingual Immersion school and I can honestly say that this is where I belong. I find it so fascinating and beautiful how students are able to incorporate the Spanish language and learn from each other. This scholarship will help me in pursuing my BCLAD authorization so that I’ll be more prepared and able to work in dual immersion schools. I hope to work in my home city of Anaheim, as they’re an up and coming school district that will be incorporating dual immersion programs in all 23 schools by 2020!"
