Master's student receives Promising Master of Arts in Teaching Award

Simone Rogers is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing her multiple subject teaching credential.

Simone received a Promising Master of Arts in Teaching award at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.

Promising Master of Arts in Teaching awards, provided through a Hispanic Serving Institution grant from the U.S. Department of Education, support students who demonstrate the potential to become inspirational teachers. 

"I am going into teaching because I enjoy helping students realize their full potential," Simone said. "I hope to create an atmosphere where my students feel comfortable to take risks, explore new ideas and practice new skills. I am hoping to teach in a dual-immersion school because I love the Spanish language and am passionate about multicultural, bilingual education." 

"​I had the privilege working as an English Language Assistant in a bilingual elementary school in Madrid, Spain for two years. This experience helped me realize that I wanted to be a teacher. I am grateful to be receiving the HSI Scholarship, as it will allow me to pursue my education to become a bilingual teacher."
