Master's student receives Promising Master of Arts in Teaching Award

12/20/2019

Kylie Tang - caring, determined, inclusive - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing  her single subject teaching credential in mathematics.

Tang received a Promising Master of Arts in Teaching award at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.

Promising Master of Arts in Teaching awards, provided through a Hispanic Serving Institution grant from the U.S. Department of Education, support students who demonstrate the potential to become inspirational teachers.

"I have always told myself that I would go into teaching, although I don’t think there was necessarily a 'why',” Tang said.

"However, all of my experiences and educator role models have been guides to getting me here. I have a deep passion for helping others-whether it is in the classroom or volunteering-and math has always been my favorite subject. As a recipient of this scholarship, I will be able to finish paying off my loans from my undergraduate education here at UCI (Zot Zot Zot!). I am extremely grateful for this award, as it has enabled me to continue my teaching career with less financial stress and hence more energy and motivation for my students."
