"Promoting Early Career Teacher Resilience Through a CalTeach Preparation Program"

11/3/2020

Director of UCI’s CalTeach Program Doron Zinger (Ph.D. ‘18), Dr. Therese Shanahan, and CalTeach Master Teacher/Math Coordinator Kris Houston published an article on early career teacher resilience in Preparing STEM Teachers: The UTeach Replication Model.

The title of the article is “Promoting Early Career Teacher Resilience Through a CalTeach Preparation Program.”

Zinger directs the UCI CalTeach program and teaches methods courses. His related research work focuses on improving teacher learning opportunities so that teachers can design and implement meaningful science and math instruction for students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. For his doctoral work he specialized in Learning, Teaching, Cognition, and Development. Associate Professor Hosun Kang and Professor Judith Haymore Sandholtz served as his co-advisors.

Shanahan previously served as the CalTeach Science Coordinator/Master Teacher prior to retirement and currently supervises CalTeach students during their fieldwork teaching assignments. Read more about Dr. Shanahan’s educational contributions here.

Houston is the CalTeach Mathematics Master Teacher and Middle School/High School Placement Coordinator. She taught high school math for sixteen years in Santa Ana Unified School District. Houston also is serving as co-director of the Irvine Math Project.
