Master's student awarded Mary Roosevelt Honor Scholar in Teaching and Learning Scholarship

12/19/2019

Aryn MacKenzie - strategic, zealous, loyal - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing her single subject teaching credential in social science.

MacKenzie was awarded a Mary Roosevelt Honor Scholar in Teaching and Learning Scholarship at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.

Mary Roosevelt Scholarships are awarded to MAT candidates exhibiting excellence in academic scholarship who have demonstrated dedication to improving the lives and educational opportunities of students and the skills and dispositions of leadership.

"I cannot remember a time I did not want to be a teacher," MacKenzie said. "I have always loved learning and the classroom environment. I loved to come home from school and recreate the classroom. In fifth grade, I discovered a love for history as my teacher transformed a monotonous reading of dead people and dates into an engaging and interactive study. My passion for history fused with my desire for teaching. It is my ambition to become a teacher in an engaging and interesting way. I was a student, greatly influenced by creative efforts of a devoted teacher and I recognize this potential to have a profound impact."
