Greg Shatsky - easygoing, determined, empathetic - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing his single subject teaching credential in English.
Shatsky was awarded a Mary Roosevelt Honor Scholar in Teaching and Learning Scholarship at the School of Education's 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on November 1.
Mary Roosevelt Scholarships are awarded to MAT candidates exhibiting excellence in academic scholarship who have demonstrated dedication to improving the lives and educational opportunities of students and the skills and dispositions of leadership.
"I want to teach because I want to share my love for language and stories with younger minds," Shatsky said. "Like many of us, I had a teacher that inspired me to teach. This teacher was extremely passionate about her subject and she made a profound difference in my life and the life of my classmates. We became confident writers and storytellers. I would like to do the same for others and give back to the community. This award will help me deal with current financial difficulties and will go towards paying for my winter tuition."
