Master's student awarded Laura E. Settle Scholarship

12/19/2019

Danielle Cheung - enthusiastic, conscientious, passionate - is a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate pursuing her multiple subject teaching credential.

Cheung was awarded the Laura E. Settle Scholarship at the School of Education 2019-2020 Scholarship Awards Ceremony on December 11, 2019.

Laura E. Settle Scholarships, awarded in honor of Laura E. Settle, educator and founder of the California Retired Teacher's Association, recognize a master's student for academic achievement and exemplary character.

"My Grandfather once told my mom, 'You can take everything from a person, but you can’t take what they know,' and I feel very strongly about this idea," Cheung said. "Education has always felt like a gift, one that opens doors, helps make connections, and keeps life interesting. I have been fortunate to experience a consciousness with educators who have exemplified how a great teacher can change the path and thinking of their students. They have shown me there is always more to learn and more to discover. I want to become an educator to help students discover this curiosity and enrich their lives, and this scholarship will aid in my journey in becoming an educator. I feel truly blessed to have been given this gift and want to thank my professors for nominating me and the generous teachers from CalRTA for making this possible."
