WMP Lab Meeting
Friday, October 4, 2019 1:00 - 3:00 pm Education 3216 Presentation 1 Title: Using Electrical Brain Stimulation to Enhance Learning Consolidation in Older Adults Presenter: Jacky Au, Postdoctoral Scholar Abstract: I will be reviewing the body of work conducted in our lab over the last few years combining the use of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and cognitive training. tDCS is a noninvasive means of electrical brain stimulation that is thought to increase neural activity within a small cortical region. In our studies, we have placed the tDCS electrodes to target the prefrontal cortex, an area known to be important for working memory function, while participants undergo working memory training. Our results show a benefit among those who received training in conjunction with tDCS, compared to training with sham tDCS. These benefits are persistent and long-lasting, and, as I will argue, relate to enhanced consolidation processes. The majority of the presentation will focus on a new study currently being designed that will use MRI to investigate the neural correlates of tDCS enhancement in older adults. Presentation # 2 Title: Mother’s Involvement in School Children’s Learning and Memory Presenter: Yi Feng, Ph.D. Student Content: I will present multiple strategies in math tutoring to improve children brain flexibility Comments are closed.
