Pheather Harris, Director of the California Alliance for Minority Participation at UCI's Center for Educational Partnerships, has received a 2019 Spotlight Award from UCI's Dynamic Womxn during their 6th annual awards ceremony, held at the Pacific Ballroom in the UCI Student Center, May 28.
In presenting the award to Pheather, Hannah Jones offered the following tribute:
The recipient of this award is a phenomenal Black womxn who has dedicated herself to the success of her department and her students of color in STEM majors. She is the Director of the California Alliance for Minority Participation. Her work is on the ground and provides targeted intervention strategies and support systems for students who need it the most. She is a critically conscious leader who centers social justice and intersectional frameworks in her daily endeavors. This individual has reached out to multiple departments and cross campus collaborators to get students the resources necessary to succeed in STEM majors. Her work is integral to the success of our young scientists of color. She mentors students on a daily basis and has been a wonderful colleague and peer mentor. Her inner light and joy for the work is inspiring and brings motivation to all the folks around her.
The theme for UCI's 2019 Dynamic Womxn Awards was "Women in Action." Pheather was nominated for the Dynamic Womxn Spotlight award by Dr. Marcela Ramirez-Stapleton, Interim Director of the UCI Cross Cultural Center.
