Professor Young-Suk Kim is elected as a member on the Steering Committee for the Global Reading Network. The Global Reading Network (GRN), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), supports USAID and other NGOs and donors to increase the impact, scalability, and sustainability of reading programs for children across the world, particularly those in developing countries. GRN serves approximately 3000 members from over 30 countries. As Dr. Kim explains,
"GRN is a critical organization to promote reading development at the global level as many developing countries do not provide instruction on reading, and, not surprisingly, millions of children cannot read a single word even after years of being in school. Improving early reading skills was one of the goals of USAID and the United Nation in the last decade." Dr. Kim led a recent comprehensive review of literacy intervention in developing countries, supported by USAID.
