Undarmaa Maamuujav awarded Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program Dissertation Fellowship

5/21/2021

The California State University Chancellor's office awarded doctoral candidate Undarmaa Maamuujav the 2021-2022 Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) Dissertation Fellowship. The fellowship will support her dissertation work titled: Examining the Linguistic Features of Adolescent L2 Students' Text-based Analytical Writing.

Maamuujav is studying the language features of academic writing produced by public school multilingual students in grades 7-11 in five different states – Arizona, Minnesota, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. The students’ primary languages include Spanish, Arabic, Somali, Hmong, and Burmese.

“Gaining a better understanding of how the linguistic features relate to rhetorical features and writing quality can inform interventions and curricular approaches that aim to address the academic literacy and language development of multilingual students,” Maamuujav said.

CDIP fellowships are awarded to academically accomplished doctoral students with the goal of increasing the number of CSU faculty with the qualifications, motivation, and skills needed to teach the diverse students of the CSU system. Maamuujav will receive $5,000, faculty mentorship, and professional development and grant resources to support the timely completion of her dissertation.
