Professor Elizabeth Peña has been appointed to the newly created position of Associate Dean of Faculty Development and Diversity in the School of Education.
In this new position, Peña's responsibilities will include creating or administering programs to support an inclusive and supportive environment for faculty and doctoral students; co-chairing the School Climate Council with the school's equity advisor; developing, implementing, and evaluating faculty development and mentoring programs; and coordinating the School's efforts with other offices and colleagues on campus, including the Office of Inclusive Excellence. Peña, who is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Fellow of the American Speech Language Hearing Association, studies bilingualism, language impairment, and test development and treatment. In reference to her new position, Peña commented, "I am humbled and honored by the trust shown to me by Dean Arum and the school leadership. I'm excited being a part of the UCI school of education and look forward to helping to build a thriving and collaborative community." Added Dean Richard Arum, "I am very grateful for Professor Peña’s willingness to take on this new role and look forward to working closely with her to strengthen our School’s efforts in this area."
