Fourteen of the top Orange County writing instructors gathered at UCI on June 6 for the launch of the 2017-2018 College-Ready Writers Program (CRWP).
With funding from the National Writing Project's USDE i3 Grant, CRWP is building a team of teacher consultants with a central goal of helping students become skilled at writing arguments from nonfiction sources. During the coming year, team members will be utilizing instructional resources, implementing formative assessments, and engaging in targeted professional development. CRWP members representing various schools throughout Orange County include: Scott Edwards-Silva, Liz Harrington, Trevor Hershberger, Dawn Lam, Carol Mooney, Jennifer Naumann, Dennis Orgeron, Virginia Reischl, Annabelle Shedd, Holly Sheridan, Marianne Stewart, Elizabeth Tairah, Lisa Tarkoff, and Mark Vermillion. Coordinating the CRWP team for UCI Writing Project are Huy Chung, Director of Research for UCIWP, and PhD students Lauren Godfrey and Rachel Stumpf. About UCIWP: Established in 1978, UCI Writing Project, located in the School of Education, is the 13th site of the California Writing Project (CWP) and the oldest of the Subject Matter Projects on the UC Irvine Campus. UCIWP has trained 800 teacher/consultants from 85 local school districts and twelve colleges and universities. Additionally, the project has trained 675 teachers in its open program on Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking, and 600 teachers in the Governor's Professional Development Institutes. The project has reached over 20,000 teachers via conferences and inservice programs.
