Professor Deborah Vandell has been elected 2020 President of Division 7, Developmental Psychology, American Psychological Association (APA).
Division 7, Developmental Psychology, is comprised of psychologists and other members of APA who study or work in the area of human development. Members are dedicated to promoting research that exhibits high standards in the application of scientific knowledge to educational, child care, policy and related settings. Vandell will become President Elect, beginning January 1, 2019, and President on January 1, 2020. Vandell, who served as Founding Dean of the UCI School of Education, researches early childhood and after-school and summer education, conducting longitudinal studies examining developmental processes and outcomes and teacher-child relationships. As one of the principal investigators with the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development, she has conducted an intensive study of 1300 children from birth through high school and currently is continuing data collection to expand the study to include adult outcomes.
