
Biography
Perla Ramos Carranza is a Ph.D. student in the School of Education specializing in Human Development in Context (HDiC). She received her B.S. in Human Development and B.A. in Psychology from UC Davis in 2017. She received her M.A. in Education from UC Irvine in 2021.
Her research focuses on the influence of family involvement and organized activities on the educational trajectories of youth from underserved communities, particularly Latinx youth. Her research also seeks to explore the role of culture, immigrant experiences, intersectional identities, and sense of belonging in shaping youth’s development.
Perla is currently working on a dissertation proposal that seeks to examine the relations between Latinx families, organized activities, and Latinx youth development. She has also been involved in the FAMILY project, which is co-led by post-doctoral scholar Dr. Nestor Tulagan and Dr. Sandra Simpkins. This project is a collaboration with Math CEO, a math enrichment after school program, to further understand the ways in which Latinx parents support the math education of Latinx middle-schoolers.
