Jenny Woo delivers TEDx talk at TEDxCitrusParkWomen: ""How to be Self-ish Without Feeling Selfish"

12/10/2019

Doctoral student Jenny Woo delivered a TEDx talk at TEDxCitrusParkWomen on Saturday, December 7. The theme for the day was "The Mission of Mavericks," celebrating the mission of 14 female change-makers and revolutionary thinkers "electrifying the atmosphere and gracing the red circle carpet." Woo was joined by presenters that included Miss Black America Ryann Richardson, WellSeek Founder/CEO Monica Mo, The Working Mother CEO Katrina Ghazarian, Work Smart founder Van Lai-Dumone, and eight other inspiration women.

Woo's topic was "How to be Self-ish Without Feeling Selfish."

Abstract: Self-care and motherhood are not a zero-sum game. To be an effective and happy mother, you have to prioritize the self. The opposite of selfish is not selfless; it’s self-abandonment. How can we be role models if we do not have a secure sense of who we are and what we want? It’s time that we stop idolizing mothers as tireless and selfless superhumans, and start embracing the complexities of our wants and needs.

Program Bio: Jenny is the founder of Mind Brain Parenting and creator of award-winning life skills games, 52 Essential Conversations and 52 Essential Relationships. Her games have been featured by Harvard University, won the 2018 Parents' Choice Awards, and are used by parents, teachers, and therapists in 43 countries. Jenny
